The Hampton Whetsell Memorial Most Outstanding New Local Organization Award is presented annually to the new local organizations that conduct the most outstanding activities during their first year of affiliation. The first year of activities (from affiliation) must be CONCLUDED during the award year, January 1st through December 31st.
This award is named for Hampton Whetsell, III. Whetsell’s desire to be the best and his will to succeed were recognized during the Annual Meeting in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was presented with The U.S. Junior Chamber “Chapter Pacesetters” award for the largest extension (113 members) in a community of between 850 and 2,500 people. A member for only five months, he was the Chapter President of the Bowman, South Carolina Junior Chamber. He died in an auto accident on August 18, 1989, while driving home from working on a chapter extension.
This award is based on the following criteria: Plan of action; recruitment strategy; Individual Development programs and results; Community Development programs and results; International Development programs and results; and Economic/Business Development programs and results. The same criteria and format used for the other Chapter Annual Report awards is used and judging is based only on the first 12 months of the chapter’s activities.
The judges, at the discretion of the National President, shall select up to three (3) recipients of the Hampton Whetsell Memorial Most Outstanding New Local Organization Award.
