The Harold Marks memorial Award is the highest achievement a Junior Chamber chapter can attain in the U.S. Jaycees Organization. The chapter receiving this award is chosen from the Clarance H. Howard Memorial Award Award Winners and is recognized as the Most Outstanding Junior Chamber Chapter in the nation.
The award honors a former Phoenix, Arizona Jaycee, Harold A. Marks, who was killed in an airplane crash in March of 1936 along with three other Junior Chamber men. Marks was a national director at the time on an extension trip to install a new chapter. The award was first set up in 1937 and went to the most outstanding local president, Ben Hadley of Columbus, Ohio. It soon evolved into a chapter award with winners known only from 1940 on. From 1940 through 1948 it was at times awarded to more than one chapter. Since 1949, it has been awarded to only one chapter each year. The winner was selected from the Clarance H. Howard Memorial Award Winners by the National President for that year.
